Does WMR Update on Weekends? Facing Eviction and Desperate for My Refund Date
Does WMR update on weekends? Ugh 😭 I neeed my date, not trying to get evicted. My landlord is already sending me notices and I'm counting on this refund to catch up on rent. Been checking like crazy every few hours and it's still stuck on the first bar. I've been driving for DoorDash extra shifts but it's not enough to cover everything. Anyone know if they actually update the system Saturday/Sunday or am I just wasting my time checking?

WMR does update on weekends, but not consistently. According to the IRS.gov FAQ section, their main database updates every 24 hours (usually overnight), including weekends. However, the WMR tool sometimes has maintenance windows on weekends. If you're in a tight spot, I'd recommend checking your tax transcript instead at https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript as it often updates before WMR and shows more detailed information about your refund status.

Think of WMR like a restaurant menu - it only shows you the basic options, while your transcript is like getting a tour of the kitchen to see exactly what's happening with your order. I've had better luck checking transcripts on weekends. They update around 3-4am EST from what I've seen. If your housing situation is urgent, you might also want to contact your local taxpayer advocate service - they can sometimes expedite refunds in hardship situations like potential eviction.

•How exactly do you contact the taxpayer advocate service? Do you need any specific documentation to prove the hardship situation?

•Omg thank you for mentioning the taxpayer advocate!!! 😭 I didn't even know that was an option. I definitely have the eviction notice to show them. Anything that might speed this up would be such a relief right now.

I monitored my WMR status diligently during the last filing cycle and documented 6 distinct weekend updates. The system appeared to execute its Centralized Processing Routine (CPR) on both Saturday and Sunday, typically between 0300-0500 hours EST. However, I noticed that Cycle Code 05 filers (which designates weekly processing) rarely saw weekend movement regardless of database refreshes. Have you determined your cycle code from your Account Transcript?

I was in a somewhat similar situation last month - needed my refund quite urgently for some medical bills. After checking WMR probably hundreds of times with no updates, I finally tried using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to actually speak with an IRS agent. I was honestly pretty amazed that it worked - got through in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was happening with my return and gave me a much more specific timeframe than the vague WMR status. Might be worth considering if you're in a really tight spot with your landlord.

•Is this legit? Seems sketchy. Why pay for something the IRS offers for free? Just keep calling.

•Back in 2022, I spent 3 days trying to reach the IRS about a similar issue. Wish I'd known about this then! Sometimes paying a little to save hours of frustration is worth it, especially when you're facing something as serious as eviction.

•I'm quite impressed with the information shared here. Just to clarify - Claimyr doesn't actually process your refund faster, correct? It simply helps you connect with an IRS representative who can provide more detailed information about your specific refund status and timeline?

I've been tracking WMR patterns for the past three tax seasons. As of April 12, 2024, weekend updates are happening but they're primarily system updates rather than status changes. Your best window for seeing actual movement is Tuesday-Thursday, especially if you filed electronically. Since you're facing potential eviction, call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 on Monday, April 15th (first thing, 7am) and request a hardship expedition. Have your eviction notice ready as documentation. They can flag your return for priority processing if you qualify.

Based on community data from 2,347 users who reported their WMR patterns this tax season, approximately 22% saw weekend updates. The breakdown shows Saturday updates for 14% of users and Sunday updates for 8%. Most weekend updates occurred between 3:15am and 6:45am Eastern time. If you're a cycle 05 filer (weekly processing), your chances of a weekend update are only about 7%. For daily processing cycles (01-04), weekend update probability increases to 31%.

Don't count on weekend updates. I made that mistake. Checked obsessively for three weekends. Nothing changed. Then Tuesday morning - full refund deposited without WMR ever updating past the first bar. The system is unreliable right now. Document your eviction threat immediately. Take photos of notices. Keep records of all communication with your landlord. This creates a paper trail if you need to request hardship consideration from the IRS.

I was in your exact shoes last month! My landlord was breathing down my neck and I was checking WMR literally every hour. For me, it actually DID update on a Sunday morning around 5am. I remember because I had been up all night worrying and decided to check one more time before trying to sleep. Suddenly it showed a deposit date! Three days later the money was in my account. Hang in there - I know exactly how stressful the waiting game is when housing is on the line.

FINALLY got my refund after being stuck on one bar for 47 days! And yes, my WMR actually did update on a Saturday morning. I had filed with EITC and CTC on February 2nd, got stuck in review forever. The transcript updated first with an 846 code, then WMR updated about 12 hours later with a direct deposit date. The relief when that money hit my account was indescribable. I was able to catch up on two months of back rent. Hoping you get your update this weekend!

Hey Connor, I totally understand the stress you're going through - been there myself. WMR can update on weekends, but it's inconsistent. From what I've observed, when weekend updates do happen, they're usually early morning (around 3-6am EST). However, don't rely solely on WMR - it's notoriously unreliable this season. Here's what I'd suggest: 1) Check your tax transcript online instead - it updates more frequently than WMR, 2) Call the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 1-877-777-4778 with your eviction notice - they handle hardship cases and can sometimes expedite refunds, 3) Keep documenting everything with your landlord for your records. I know the waiting is brutal when your housing is at stake. Try to check transcripts rather than burning yourself out refreshing WMR every few hours. Sending positive thoughts your way! 🙏

•This is really helpful advice, Diego! I'm new to this whole tax refund process and didn't realize there were so many different ways to check status. The transcript thing sounds way more reliable than WMR. Quick question - do you need to create an account to access the tax transcript online, or can you check it without going through a whole signup process? Also, is the Taxpayer Advocate Service something that's available to everyone or do you need to meet certain criteria? Thanks for breaking this down so clearly!

I feel for you Connor - the anxiety of waiting for a refund when facing eviction is absolutely overwhelming. From my experience, WMR does update on weekends but it's pretty sporadic. I've seen updates happen anywhere from Friday night to Sunday evening, but the most common time seems to be early Saturday morning around 4-5am EST. That said, don't drive yourself crazy checking every few hours - I made that mistake and it just added to my stress. The transcript method others mentioned is definitely more reliable. You can access it at irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript and it usually shows movement before WMR does. Given your urgent situation with the eviction notice, definitely contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service ASAP. They specifically help taxpayers facing economic hardship and can sometimes push your refund through faster. Have that eviction notice ready as proof of hardship. Also, keep doing those DoorDash shifts if you can - every bit helps and shows good faith effort to your landlord. Document all your attempts to pay rent and communicate with your landlord in writing. This creates a paper trail that could be helpful later. Hang in there - I know it's terrifying but you're taking all the right steps. Many of us have been in similar spots and made it through. 💪
