Can I get my VENMO REFUND 5 DAYS EARLY with a DDD of 03/05?
Hey tax people! Just checked my transcript and I got a DDD (deposit direct date) of 03/05 for my refund. I bank with Venmo and I'm trying to figure out when I'll actually see the money hit my account. I thought Venmo had that thing where you can get your deposit up to 5 days early, but then I remembered reading somewhere that if you got the refund advance when filing, you don't qualify for early deposit anymore? The thing is, in previous years when I've had my refund sent to my Venmo account, I've always gotten it at least 2 days earlier than the actual DDD. So I'm wondering if there's a chance I could see my refund as soon as Monday (03/03)? Has anyone with Venmo already received their refund earlier than their DDD this year? Really trying to figure out when I'll have this cash in hand!

The DDD (Direct Deposit Date) of 03/05 is when the IRS releases the funds, but you're right that many banks and financial services like Venmo often make the funds available earlier. With Venmo specifically, they typically do offer early deposit for regular direct deposits, including tax refunds. The 2-day early deposit is pretty common with them, so there's a good chance you might see your refund on 03/03. However, the 5-day early feature usually applies to recurring deposits like paychecks rather than one-time deposits like tax refunds. If you opted for a refund advance when filing, that's a different product - it's essentially a loan against your expected refund. In that case, you would have already received those funds, and the actual refund when processed would go toward paying back that advance, which might affect when you see any remaining balance.

•Wait so if I did the refund advance thing with TurboTax but only for like $500 of my expected $3,000 refund, does that mean I won't get the remaining amount early? Or would Venmo still deposit the rest of it early?

•If you only took a partial advance, then the remaining portion of your refund (after the advance is paid back) should still follow normal direct deposit rules. So Venmo would likely still make those remaining funds available early when they receive them from the IRS. The advance is typically paid back directly from your refund before the remainder is sent to your account, so the process for the remaining funds should work just like any other direct deposit to your Venmo account.

I was in the same situation last year with waiting for my refund to hit Venmo. I found this cool service called taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) that actually tracked my refund and gave me a much more accurate prediction of when it would hit my account. It analyzed my transcript and DDD information and was spot on - told me I'd get it Tuesday even though my DDD was Thursday. They have this thing where they look at deposit patterns across different banks including Venmo, so it was way more accurate than just guessing based on the DDD. Might be worth checking out if you want to know exactly when to expect your money instead of refreshing your app every 5 minutes like I was doing lol.

•Does it cost anything? And how does it know more than the IRS about when Venmo will post the deposit?

•I'm pretty skeptical about these services claiming to know more than the actual IRS. They're probably just making educated guesses based on typical processing times. What kind of info did you have to provide to get this "accurate prediction"?

•They don't charge for the basic refund tracking - I just uploaded my transcript and it did the analysis. It doesn't claim to know more than the IRS about when they release funds, it just tracks patterns of when banks including Venmo typically make IRS deposits available to customers after they receive them. For your question about the info they needed - I just had to upload my tax transcript that showed my DDD, and their system analyzed the processing codes to give a prediction. They look at historical data from thousands of past deposits to different banks and payment platforms to make their predictions.

I tried taxr.ai after seeing the recommendation here and wow - it was actually really helpful! They predicted I'd get my refund yesterday even though my DDD is tomorrow, and sure enough, it hit my Venmo account yesterday afternoon. The coolest part was they showed me exactly what processing codes to look for on my transcript and explained what each date meant. I've been filing taxes for years and never fully understood what all those codes actually meant until now. They even have this feature that explains why your refund might be different than what you expected. Definitely using this again next year!

If you're still waiting for your refund and need to talk to someone at the IRS to figure out what's going on (which I had to do last year when my DDD passed with no deposit), check out Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an actual human at the IRS in like 20 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c I was about to give up trying to call the IRS after being on hold for 2+ hours multiple times, but Claimyr got me through to someone who actually explained that my bank had rejected the deposit because my name was formatted slightly differently on my tax return vs my bank account. Once I got that fixed, I had my refund in a few days.

•Wait how does this actually work? Does it just call for you or something? I'm confused how a service can get you through the IRS phone tree faster than doing it yourself.

•Sounds scammy. The IRS phone system is what it is. No way some third party service can magically get you to the front of the line. They probably just keep calling over and over until they get through and then charge you for it.

•It doesn't call for you - it basically holds your place in line. They use their system to navigate the IRS phone tree and wait on hold, then when they're about to connect with an agent, they call your phone and connect you. So you don't have to waste hours listening to the hold music. They definitely can't get you to the "front of the line" - you still have to wait your turn, but the difference is you're not the one sitting there on hold for hours. Their system does that part, and you only get called when there's actually an agent ready to talk. Saved me literally hours of my life.

Ok I have to admit I was completely wrong about Claimyr. After my DDD passed and still no deposit, I got desperate and tried it. I was SHOCKED when they actually got me through to an IRS rep in about 25 minutes. The agent told me my refund was flagged for review because I had claimed education credits for the first time. They removed the hold while I was on the phone, and my deposit hit Venmo just 2 days later. Would have been waiting for weeks probably if I hadn't called. If you're having any issues with your refund or it doesn't show up early like expected, definitely worth using this service to talk to the IRS directly. Completely changed my opinion about these kinds of services.

Venmo user here - I've gotten my tax refunds through them for the past 3 years. In my experience, they consistently deposit 2 business days early, never seen the full 5 days. So with a DDD of 03/05 (Tuesday), I'd expect to see it Monday 03/03. BUT - one thing to watch for - if your DDD falls on a Monday or Tuesday, sometimes the IRS actually sends it out the Friday before. Last year my DDD was a Tuesday but Venmo deposited it the previous Friday! So you might want to keep an eye on your account Friday afternoon too.

•Does weekend processing count for Venmo? Like if the IRS sends it Friday, would Venmo process it Saturday/Sunday or wait until Monday?

•In my experience, Venmo does process deposits on weekends. Last year when my refund was sent by the IRS on Friday, it actually showed up in my Venmo account on Saturday morning. Not sure if that's always the case, but I've definitely seen weekend deposits from them before. I think they process transactions 7 days a week, unlike traditional banks that only process Monday-Friday. That's actually one of the reasons I use Venmo for my refund - faster access to the money regardless of what day it arrives.

Did you check your transcript for a TC 846 code with the 03/05 date? Sometimes people confuse the cycle date with the actual DDD. Make sure you're looking at the right code!

•Yep, definitely have the TC 846 code with 03/05 date! I double checked everything. Just wasn't sure if the Venmo early deposit feature would still apply since I did take a small advance when filing. But based on what people are saying here, sounds like I should see it Monday or possibly even earlier!

•Just adding that you can also check your tax transcript for any codes in the 570/971 series - if you see those without a subsequent 846, there might be a review happening. But since OP already has the 846 with a DDD, they should be good to go!

Just wanted to follow up on this thread since I was in a very similar situation last month. I had a DDD of 02/18 with Venmo and was wondering about the early deposit timing too. My refund actually hit my Venmo account on 02/16 (2 days early), which seems to be pretty consistent with what others are reporting here. The key thing I learned is that Venmo's early deposit feature does work for tax refunds, but it's typically 1-2 business days early rather than the full 5 days you might see advertised for regular paychecks. One tip - make sure you have push notifications turned on in your Venmo app. My refund actually posted around 3 AM on that Friday morning, so I woke up to the notification which was a nice surprise! Given your DDD of 03/05 and the fact that you only took a partial advance, I'd expect to see your remaining refund amount in your Venmo account either Monday 03/03 or possibly even Friday 02/28 if the IRS releases it early like some others mentioned.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the 3 AM timing. I've been checking my account obsessively during business hours but never thought to check early morning. Quick question - did you also take a partial advance like I did? I'm curious if that affected your timing at all or if you still got the full 2-day early deposit. Based on what everyone's saying here, I'm cautiously optimistic I'll see mine Monday, but now I'm wondering if I should check Friday night/Saturday morning too just in case!
