CTC Still Not Received - What Are My Next Steps?
Haven't received my Child Tax Credit yet, and we're well into the tax season. Is this the IRS being typically slow, or is there something specific I need to do? Recently finalized my divorce and wondering if that's causing the delay? I've already checked my tax transcript and verified my banking information is correct. Shouldn't this have been processed by now?

Several variables could be affecting your Child Tax Credit disbursement. Have you verified your Filing Status adjustment post-divorce? The IRS Dependent Database (DDB) often flags returns with recent marital status changes for additional verification, especially when dependents are involved. The systemic reconciliation process typically takes 6-8 weeks for post-divorce CTC allocation.

But wouldn't the IRS already have this info from the return? Seems like they're just making ppl wait for no reason tbh. My buddy got his CTC weeks ago and he filed after me.

I went through something similar last year after my separation. Waited almost 2 months with zero updates. I was getting slightly worried because I needed that money for my kid's summer camp. Finally called the IRS using Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and actually got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out they needed to verify custody arrangements since both my ex and I claimed our child. The agent was able to push my case forward once I explained the situation.

Is this service actually legitimate? I've seen mixed reviews about these IRS call services. • Some people say they're just selling what you can do yourself • Others claim they actually do connect you faster • I'm hesitant to pay for something the government should provide for free

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe they might just use some kind of automated system to handle the hold times? Would be interested to know if anyone has more information about how they actually work...

Wait, you can actually get through to a real person at the IRS? I've been on hold for hours and eventually just gave up. How is it even possible that a third-party service can get you through faster than calling directly? Wouldn't everyone just use this if it worked?

Just checked the IRS website and average wait times are currently 90+ minutes! Need to get this resolved ASAP since school payments are due next week. Has anyone used this service recently? Does it still work with the current high call volumes?

The IRS is processing CTC claims in batches this year. Your divorce is definitely the issue here. They need to confirm which parent gets the credit when there's been a status change. Don't wait around hoping it resolves itself. You need to be proactive and contact them directly to explain your situation.

I believe I might be able to provide some potentially useful information that could help in your situation. The Child Tax Credit processing for recently divorced taxpayers typically follows a somewhat different verification path. In many cases, the IRS may require additional documentation to confirm custody arrangements, especially if this is the first tax year after the divorce. You might want to consider checking your tax transcript for TC 570 (additional account action pending) or TC 971 (notice issued), which could indicate they're trying to contact you for verification.

I've helped several friends navigate similar situations. Here's what you can do: 1. First, pull your tax transcript from the IRS website 2. Look for specific codes that indicate processing delays 3. Check for any notices that might have been sent 4. Verify that your banking information is correct If you're having trouble understanding what's on your transcript, I recommend using https://taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and explains exactly what's happening with your return in plain English. It helped me figure out why my CTC was delayed (had a code 570 that I didn't understand, but taxr.ai explained it was just a temporary hold).

OMG I'm in the EXACT same boat!!! Just finalized my divorce in January and STILL waiting on my CTC. So frustrating when you're counting on that money for bills!! 😫 I've called the IRS like 20 times and can never get through. This is seriously affecting my ability to pay for my kid's needs right now. Did anyone actually get their issue resolved?
