Check this Washington Post article: [Technical Problems Delay Stimulus Checks for Millions](https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/04/16/coronavirus-cares-stimulus-check/). - If the IRS attempted to direct deposit your payment to a closed account, you cannot update your banking info online. A paper check will be mailed to your address on file. - **SSI Recipients**: You DO NOT need to file a simple return unless you need to add qualifying dependent children. Automatic payments should arrive by early April. The most important thing to understand about these Economic Impact Payments is that they're technically an advance on a tax credit for the 2025 tax year. That's why they're calling it an "Advanced 2025 Recovery Rebate." What this means in practical terms: if you don't get the full amount you're entitled to now, you can claim the difference when you file your 2025 taxes in 2026. For example, if your income was too high in 2023 (your last filed return) but drops significantly in 2025, you might qualify for more than what you initially received. Also, the IRS won't ask for money back if your situation changes in a way that would have reduced your payment. So if you had a child who was under 17 in 2023 (qualifying for the extra $500) but they turn 17 in 2025, you don't have to return that portion of the payment. For those experiencing the "Payment Status Not Available" error, the IRS typically updates account information once per day, usually overnight. Trying multiple times within the same day usually won't help and might actually lock you out temporarily if you try too often.

•Thanks for clearing that up! Question - my 2023 AGI was like $85,000 but I got laid off in February and will probably make less than $50k this year. Will I still get the full amount or will they base it on my 2023 return?

•The IRS will use your 2023 return to determine your initial payment amount. So if your 2023 AGI was $85,000, you'll likely receive a reduced payment now based on that income. However, when you file your 2025 taxes in 2026, you can claim the additional credit amount you're entitled to based on your lower 2025 income. The system is designed to eventually get you the full amount you qualify for, even if the initial payment is reduced or zero.

After struggling with the Get My Payment tool for DAYS (kept getting that stupid "Payment Status Not Available" message), I finally found something that actually worked for me! I used taxr.ai and it was seriously a game-changer. I uploaded my tax documents at https://taxr.ai and their system analyzed everything and told me exactly why I was having issues with the IRS tool - turns out I had a name mismatch between my tax return and Social Security records. The tool gave me specific instructions on how to format my address in the IRS system (apparently they're super picky about abbreviations and formatting), and I got through on my next try! It also helped me confirm I was eligible for the full amount and calculated what I should expect to receive.

•How does this compare to using something like TurboTax's stimulus calculator? Does it give you more specific information? I'm still waiting on mine and wondering if this would help figure out what's going on.

•Sounds interesting but I'm always skeptical about giving my tax docs to some random website. How secure is it? And do they keep your info or delete it after analysis?

•The taxr.ai tool is much more detailed than TurboTax's calculator. It doesn't just estimate your payment amount - it actually analyzes your specific tax situation and identifies exact issues that might be causing delays or errors with the IRS system. It found that my address format was causing the problem. Regarding security, I was concerned about that too initially. They use bank-level encryption and their privacy policy says they don't store your documents after analysis is complete. You can also request immediate deletion. I researched them pretty thoroughly before uploading anything - they're mentioned in several financial publications and have solid reviews.

Just wanted to follow up about taxr.ai - I decided to give it a try after continuing to get nowhere with the IRS website. Holy crap, it actually worked! I was skeptical (as you could probably tell from my earlier comment), but the tool immediately identified that I had a discrepancy between my 2023 and 2022 tax returns that was confusing the IRS system. They gave me step-by-step instructions for fixing it in the Get My Payment tool, and I was able to confirm my payment is scheduled for next week! The document analysis showed me exactly where the error was - something I never would have figured out on my own. They even provided a reference number I could use if I ended up needing to call the IRS. For anyone still stuck in "Payment Status Not Available" hell, I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot.

Anyone else spent HOURS trying to get through to the IRS about their stimulus payment? I've called like 20 times and either get disconnected or sit on hold forever just to be told they can't help me. Super frustrating! After my fifth attempt yesterday, I found this service called Claimyr that lets you skip the IRS phone queue. Just go to https://claimyr.com and check out their demo at https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c - it's pretty impressive how it works. Basically, their system continuously calls the IRS for you and then connects you when it reaches a human. I was skeptical but desperate, so I tried it - got connected to an actual IRS rep in about 45 minutes instead of spending all day redialing! The agent confirmed that my payment was delayed because they had my old banking info, and she was able to update it in their system. My payment should arrive next week now!

•Wait, how does this actually work? Isn't this just the same as calling them yourself? I don't understand how they can get you through faster when the IRS phone lines are all backed up.

•Sounds like BS honestly. The IRS specifically said NOT to call them about stimulus payments. And if this service actually worked, wouldn't it just make the phone lines even more clogged for everyone? Seems like a scam to me.

•It's different from calling yourself because their system automatically redials and navigates the IRS phone tree until it finds an available agent. When you call manually, you have to keep redialing and going through all the prompts each time, which is incredibly time-consuming. Their system essentially does the waiting for you. I understand your skepticism - I felt the same way initially. The IRS did say not to call about general stimulus questions, but if you have a specific issue like incorrect banking info or a payment that shows as sent but never arrived, you actually do need to speak with someone. The service doesn't add to the call volume - it's just automating what you'd be doing manually anyway. I was desperate after weeks of no progress and it actually resolved my situation when nothing else worked.

Alright, I need to publicly eat my words here. After calling the IRS myself for THREE DAYS with no success (just disconnects and "call back later" messages), I broke down and tried that Claimyr service I was so skeptical about in my previous comment. I seriously can't believe it worked. Their system got me through to an actual human at the IRS in about an hour. The agent was actually super helpful - turns out my payment was sent to a closed account from 2 years ago (I've moved banks since then). The IRS rep was able to update my info and said my check would be reissued within 2 weeks. For anyone stuck in IRS limbo like I was - especially if you've had bank account changes or address updates - it might be worth trying. I'm honestly shocked this worked after all my failed attempts to reach someone. Sometimes being wrong feels pretty good!

Does anyone know if I qualify for a payment if I was claimed as a dependent on my parents' 2023 taxes but I'm filing my own return for 2025? I'm 23 now and completely supporting myself.

•If you were claimed as a dependent on someone else's 2023 return, you won't receive the initial payment now. However, since you'll be filing as independent for 2025, you should be able to claim the recovery rebate credit when you file your 2025 taxes next year. The important thing is that no one can claim you as a dependent on their 2025 return. Your parents claiming you for 2023 affects the initial payment, but your 2025 status is what ultimately determines eligibility for the credit.

•Thank you for explaining! So basically I won't get anything now, but can get it when I file next year as long as my parents don't claim me as a dependent for 2025. That makes sense.

Has anyone figured out how to check the status for married couples? When I enter our info in Get My Payment, it only shows my husband's payment but nothing about mine. We filed jointly but I'm worried I won't get anything!

•For joint filers, the Get My Payment tool typically only shows status for one spouse - usually whoever is listed first on the tax return. If your husband is the primary filer, you'll just see his status, but the payment should include both of your portions ($2800 total if you both qualify for the full amount). If you received a partial payment that seems to only cover one person, you might want to wait a few days to see if a second payment arrives. Some couples have reported receiving their payments separately despite filing jointly.

•That explains it! We did get $2800 deposited, so I guess it was for both of us even though the tracker only showed his info. Thanks for clearing that up - been worried for no reason I guess.
