Lost my California EDD debit card - what number do I call to get a replacement?
So I've been going through a rough couple months after getting laid off from my warehouse job and I finally got my California EDD benefits approved after a long adjudication process. Everything was going smoothly until I realized my EDD debit card is completely gone. I've looked everywhere - car, couch cushions, jacket pockets, you name it. I'm pretty sure it fell out of my wallet when I was at the grocery store last week. I need to know what number to call if I lost my EDD card because I have benefits sitting on there I can't access and bills coming due. Has anyone dealt with this? Is there a specific customer service line just for the card itself? I don't even know if I should be calling California EDD directly or the card issuer. Really stressing out about this.

The EDD debit card in California is issued through Money Network (they took over from Bank of America a while back). The number to call for a lost or stolen EDD card is 1-800-684-7051. That's the Money Network customer service line specifically for California EDD cardholders. When you call, have your Social Security number ready and they'll verify your identity, freeze the old card, and send you a replacement. Usually takes 7-10 business days for standard delivery but you can request expedited shipping if you need it faster.

•Oh wow I didn't know they switched from Bank of America to Money Network. That explains why I was searching for the wrong number. Thank you so much, calling right now.

•wait is it definitely money network now? i thought it was still bofa

•Yes it's definitely Money Network now. California EDD transitioned away from Bank of America debit cards back in 2022. The new cards say Money Network on them. If someone still has an old BofA EDD card it would be expired by now.

Going through this exact thing last month. One thing I'll add - when you call the Money Network number for your lost EDD card, make sure you also ask them to check your recent transaction history. I found out someone had already tried to use my card before I even reported it missing. They were able to dispute the charges and I got that money back. Don't just report it lost, ask them to review activity too.

•That's actually really scary, I hadn't even thought about someone using it. I'm calling right away now. Did the dispute process take long?

•Took about 2 weeks for them to investigate and credit my account back. Not ideal when you're unemployed and need every dollar but at least I got it resolved. Just stay on top of calling them and following up.

While you're dealing with the lost card situation, if you run into any issues getting through to Money Network or need to contact California EDD directly about your benefits account, I'd suggest checking out Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was having a nightmare trying to reach an actual EDD agent when my benefits got held up and Claimyr connected me to a live person way faster than I ever could on my own. There's a demo video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 - worth a look if the phone lines are giving you trouble.

•Is this legit? I've been burned by sketchy third party things before when dealing with EDD stuff

•Totally understand the skepticism. It's a real service - basically helps you get through to EDD phone queues that are notoriously hard to navigate. The video explains it pretty well. I was desperate after weeks of not reaching anyone about my adjudication hold so I tried it and it worked for me.

Just to clarify the timeline stuff - when you report your EDD card lost to Money Network, they'll issue a new card and your existing balance transfers automatically to the new card. You don't lose any of your benefits. Also your direct deposit of future California EDD payments will continue onto the replacement card without you needing to do anything extra. The card number will be different but the account stays linked.

•This is such a relief to hear. I was worried I'd have to re-verify everything with EDD and potentially mess up my claim.

•does the card number changing affect anything with like setting up bill pay through the card?
0 coins
Keisha Jackson
•Yes if you had the card number saved anywhere for automatic payments you'd need to update those with the new card number. But your EDD benefit deposits themselves transfer automatically.

i lost mine too a few months ago and the money network people were actually pretty helpful when i called. just be ready for some hold time. i waited like 25 minutes but got it sorted out eventually. they confirmed my address and mailed the new card. came in like 8 days

Sofia Rodriguez
•25 min hold isn't too terrible honestly compared to trying to reach EDD directly lol

•haha yeah EDD hold times are a whole different level. money network was actually reasonable

WAIT. I've been calling the wrong number this whole time?? I had an issue with my card last week and I called California EDD's main line and they told me they couldn't help with card issues and to call the bank. I didn't know who to call. I just gave up. So the number is 1-800-684-7051 for Money Network? Is that 24/7?
0 coins
Dmitry Ivanov
•Yes 1-800-684-7051 is the Money Network number for California EDD cardholders. I believe their automated system is 24/7 for things like reporting a lost/stolen card or checking your balance. Live agents have specific hours though - I think it's 24 hours a day but you should confirm when you call.

•Omg thank you. I've just been stressing about this for a week for nothing. Going to call right now.

•Also worth noting - you can also log into your Money Network account online at moneynetwork.com to freeze your card yourself while you're waiting to speak with someone. That way if someone does have it they can't make any more charges.

Quick heads up - when I reported my lost EDD card I also asked if I could switch to direct deposit into my regular bank account instead of getting another debit card. They said yes, I just had to update my payment method through my myEDD account on the California EDD website. That way I don't have to worry about a card getting lost again. Might be worth considering once you get your replacement sorted.
0 coins
Sofia Rodriguez
•Oh that's actually a really smart move. How complicated was the direct deposit setup through myEDD?
0 coins
Oliver Schmidt
•Pretty straightforward honestly. Log into myEDD, go to the payment option section, and enter your bank routing and account number. Takes a few weeks for the change to process and in the meantime payments still go to the card.

Zainab Ali
•wait you can do that?? I've been dealing with the card this whole time and never knew direct deposit was an option
0 coins
Dmitry Ivanov
•Yes direct deposit to a personal bank account has always been an option with California EDD. Just need to set it up through myEDD. A lot of people default to the card because that's what comes in the mail but you're not required to use it.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Losing your EDD card when you're already dealing with unemployment is genuinely stressful. I lost mine about 6 months ago during a move and I panicked so bad thinking my benefits were going to be frozen permanently or something. It all worked out fine though. The replacement process is actually pretty smooth compared to dealing with California EDD claim stuff.

•Thank you for saying that. I definitely spiraled a bit when I realized it was gone. Good to know it resolves okay.

•You'll be fine! Just call Money Network, report it, verify your identity, and you're on your way. The hard part was getting approved in the first place lol

One thing nobody mentioned - check if your card was just demagnetized before assuming it's fully lost. Sometimes if the card is in the same pocket as your phone or next to other cards the magnetic strip gets messed up and it won't work at chip readers either if the chip is scratched. Not saying that's your situation since you said you can't find it, but I thought my card was lost once and I just found it in a different jacket.

Sofia Rodriguez
•I literally cannot find it anywhere, I've done a full search. But this is good info to keep in mind for the future, thanks.

Just jumping in to say that I had my EDD card stolen (not just lost) and the process to dispute fraudulent charges is a bit different. If you think there's any chance someone took your card intentionally rather than you just misplacing it, make sure you specifically say stolen not lost when you call Money Network. There might be different protections for theft vs. accidental loss. I had a neighbor dispute and won more of my charges back by clarifying it was stolen.
0 coins
Sofia Rodriguez
•Hmm I'm not sure if it was stolen or I just dropped it. I'll explain the situation and see what they say.
0 coins
Keisha Jackson
•Good advice. If you report it as stolen they may also advise you to file a police report number which can help in dispute cases. Even if you're not 100% sure it was stolen, if you think there's any possibility explain that to Money Network when you call.
0 coins
Natasha Volkov
•Yes exactly. A police report number strengthens your dispute claim significantly from my experience.

I'm so paranoid about this happening to me that I memorized the last 4 digits of my EDD card and I take a photo of the front and back (without the CVV visible) and keep it in a secure folder. That way if it ever goes missing I have the card number info ready. Also Money Network has an app now where you can see your balance and recent transactions which I check like every day lol

Sofia Rodriguez
•The app is such a good idea. I didn't even know there was a Money Network app. Downloading it now.

Zainab Ali
•Yeah it's really useful. You can also get balance alerts set up so you get notified every time there's a transaction. Would've helped you catch any unauthorized charges immediately.

Going slightly off topic but has anyone else had issues with California EDD not loading payments onto the card on time? I've been having this recurring thing where my weekly claim shows approved on myEDD but the money doesn't hit my Money Network card until like 2-3 days later than expected. Is that normal?
0 coins
Dmitry Ivanov
•There's typically a 1-2 business day processing window between when EDD marks a payment as issued and when it actually loads onto your Money Network card. Weekends and holidays can add extra delays. If it's going beyond 3 business days after the issued date, that's when I'd start making calls.
0 coins
Javier Torres
•okay good to know. I was freaking out thinking something was wrong with my claim. it was like 2 days so sounds normal
0 coins
Miguel Herrera
•If you ever do hit a delay longer than that, calling Money Network first is smart to confirm whether they've received the payment from EDD. Sometimes the issue is on EDD's end not the card side and knowing which one helps you figure out who to call.

Random question - if you get a replacement EDD card does the expiration date change? Mine is expiring next year and I'm wondering if I should just wait and let it naturally expire and get a new one then versus dealing with reporting it lost now over a smaller issue I have
0 coins
Keisha Jackson
•When you report it lost they issue a brand new card with a new number AND a new expiration date. So you'd get more time on the card. I wouldn't wait if you have an issue now - get it sorted and you'll have a fresh card with a longer expiration.

Paolo Romano
•oh that's actually good to know. might just report it then

Something I wish I'd known before I called Money Network about my lost EDD card - have a pen and paper ready. They give you a case/reference number at the end of the call and you NEED to write that down. I forgot to and when my replacement card issue had a complication I had no reference number and had to basically start the process over explaining everything from scratch.

Sofia Rodriguez
•Writing this down right now before I call. Thank you for the heads up.

•Also ask them to confirm the mailing address they have on file before they send the card. Mine had an old address and I almost didn't catch it in time.

StarGazer101
•YES address confirmation is so important. My first replacement went to an apartment I moved out of two years ago because EDD had my old address. Always verify before they send anything.

I know this thread is mainly about the lost card but I want to mention that if you're also having trouble reaching California EDD about anything claim-related while you're sorting this out, Claimyr really saved me last month. I'd been trying for weeks to talk to someone about a disqualification notice I didn't understand and claimyr.com got me connected to an actual EDD agent within hours. There's a demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 showing exactly how it works. Wish I'd found it sooner.

•I've been seeing this mentioned in a few EDD threads. Is there a catch or is it genuinely just a phone queue service?
0 coins
QuantumLeap
•From my experience it's genuinely just a service that helps you navigate the EDD phone system. No weird catch. They just help you get through to a live representative faster than trying on your own repeatedly.

Does anyone know if there's a fee for getting an expedited replacement EDD card? I lost mine once and I remember there being something about a charge but I can't remember if that was just for rushed delivery or if all replacements cost something
0 coins
Dmitry Ivanov
•Standard replacement cards are free. Expedited shipping does have a fee associated with it - I believe it's around $15 but you should confirm that amount with Money Network when you call since fees can change. If you can wait the standard 7-10 days the regular replacement is at no cost.
0 coins
Malik Johnson
•okay that makes sense. 7-10 days isn't that bad if the standard one is free. thanks

•Also if your situation is urgent because you have no other access to money you can sometimes make the case for expedited processing. I've heard of people getting it waived in hardship situations but your mileage may vary

OP I really hope this gets resolved quickly for you. I remember when I first applied for California EDD and everything felt overwhelming - the adjudication wait, learning how to file weekly claims correctly, understanding the job search requirements. And then on top of all that to have a card issue is just too much at once. It does get easier to navigate once you've been through the system a few times. Hang in there.

Sofia Rodriguez
•Thank you genuinely. It does feel like a lot to learn all at once. I appreciate the support.

•Once you get the card replaced, if you haven't already, definitely set up direct deposit for future payments so you're not depending on a physical card. Way less stressful.

Update me when you get the replacement? I'm curious how long it actually takes in 2025. I've seen people say different things ranging from 5 days to 2 weeks and I want a current data point since I'm in a similar boat debating whether to report mine missing

•Will do! I just called Money Network and they confirmed my card is being cancelled and a new one sent. They said 7-10 business days. I'll update when it arrives.

•Perfect thank you! And did they say anything about your balance being protected in the meantime?

For anyone finding this thread in the future: the key steps for a lost California EDD debit card are (1) call Money Network at 1-800-684-7051 immediately, (2) ask them to freeze the card right away, (3) request a review of recent transactions for any unauthorized activity, (4) verify your mailing address with them before they send the replacement, (5) get your case reference number, and (6) consider switching to direct deposit afterward to avoid future card issues. And if you have any California EDD claim issues that need a phone call to an actual EDD agent, claimyr.com has been a lifesaver for a lot of people in this community when the regular phone lines are impossible to get through.
