Need help with CA SDI appeal and back pay - stuck in limbo
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a California state disability issue. I filed an appeal for my claim and I'm also waiting on some back pay. Has anyone gone through this process before? Any advice on how to speed things up or what to expect? I've been trying to get in touch with someone but no luck so far.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I went through something similar last year. The whole process is a nightmare. Have you tried calling their main line? It took me like 50 attempts, but I finally got through to a human.

Yeah, I've been trying to call but it's always busy or I get disconnected. How long did your appeal take to process?

It took about 3 months for me, but I've heard it can vary. Keep calling and document everything. Good luck!

3 months? You got lucky. Mine took 6 months and I still haven't seen a dime of back pay. 🤦♂️

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I'm skeptical. Why should we have to pay to talk to a government agency? 🤔

I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me days of frustration. The $20 was worth it to finally get my issue resolved.

Can confirm, I used it too. Felt kinda silly paying but man, it was such a relief to actually talk to someone.

Here's what worked for me with my SDI appeal: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, emails, and any correspondence. 2. Be persistent. Call every day if you have to. 3. Reach out to your local state representative. Sometimes they can help push things along. 4. If you have any medical documentation to support your claim, make sure to submit it. 5. Be prepared for a long wait. The system is overwhelmed right now. Hang in there, OP. It's a frustrating process but keep at it!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping better records. Any idea how long the appeal process usually takes?

In my experience, it can take anywhere from 2-6 months. But I've heard of some cases taking up to a year. The backpay should come through once the appeal is resolved.

Have you tried faxing your documents? Sometimes that gets faster results than mailing or uploading online. Weird, I know, but worth a shot.

What year is it? 1995? Can't believe we still have to use fax machines 🤣

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. You might have to wait on hold for a while, but youre more likely to get through.

This. Also, try calling on Wednesdays. For some reason, it seems to be their least busy day.

Anyone know if theres a way to check the status of an appeal online? I cant get through on the phone and im losing my mind

Unfortunately, there's no online system for checking appeal status. It's like they're stuck in the stone age or something.

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you're still certifying for benefits even while your appeal is pending. I made that mistake and it caused even more delays.

I swear, dealing with SDI is like playing a game where they don't tell you the rules and the goalposts keep moving. Hang in there, OP. We're all in this together. 💪
