Can't get through to confirm if CalFresh received my SAR7 - worried about benefits stopping
I submitted my SAR7 form almost 3 weeks ago (dropped it off at the county office in person) but haven't heard anything back. My benefits are supposed to renew next month and I'm getting anxious. I've tried calling the CalFresh office 6 times this week but either get stuck in an endless phone tree or it disconnects me after 30+ minutes on hold. I really need to confirm they received my paperwork before my benefits lapse! My kids and I can't afford to miss a month of food assistance. Has anyone found a reliable way to actually speak with a human being at CalFresh lately? The office is too far for me to visit again without taking time off work.

this happens EVERY time with SAR7s!! i swear they lose half of them on purpose. i mailed mine last month and ended up having to resubmit it bcuz they claimed they nvr got it. try checking BenefitsCal online if u have an account, sometimes it will show if its received

•Thanks, I didn't think to check BenefitsCal! Just logged in and it shows "pending review" which I guess means they did get it? Still wish I could talk to someone to make sure everything's in order...

If it shows as "pending review" in your BenefitsCal account, that's a good sign they received it. However, you're right to want confirmation because sometimes they need additional verification documents that they might not communicate clearly. For peace of mind, you should still try to reach someone directly. What county are you in? Some counties have specific worker email addresses or dedicated phone lines for document verification questions.

•I'm in Alameda County. I don't think I have my worker's direct email - just the main CalFresh number that never connects to a real person. I included all my pay stubs with my SAR7 but I'm worried because my hours increased slightly last month.

OMG i know exactly how u feel!!!! I was in the same boat last year and my benefits got cut off even tho i DID turn in my SAR7!!! It took 3 weeks to get them back and they said it was "processing backlog" whatever that means. so frustrating!!!!

•Same thing happened to my sister! The worst part is they never tell you what's happening - just suddenly no benefits loaded on the EBT card and you have to scramble to figure out why. The system is broken.

Have you tried using Claimyr? It saved me SO much time with this exact problem. It's this service that gets you through to an actual CalFresh worker without the endless hold times. You just go to claimyr.com and they basically wait on hold for you and call when a real person picks up. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8. I was skeptical but used it when my SAR7 was stuck in processing and got through to someone who fixed it right away.

•Thanks, I'll check this out! At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. Just need to know what's happening with my case.

It's definitely a good sign that BenefitsCal shows your SAR7 as "pending review." Here's what I recommend: 1. Screenshot that pending status page as proof you submitted it 2. If your hours increased, but it wasn't over the Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) shown on your last approval letter, you should be fine 3. Try reaching your county office via email - Alameda County has a general case document email: CustomerService@acgov.org 4. Include your case number and specifically ask for confirmation that your SAR7 was received and if any additional verification is needed If you don't get an email response within 3 business days, then I'd recommend trying to get through by phone or using one of the call services like mentioned above. The most important thing is documenting your attempts to communicate with them.

•Thank you so much for the detailed advice! I just sent an email to that address with my case number and a screenshot. The increase was only about $120 extra for the month, and I think my IRT is something like $2,700 so it should be well under that. Really appreciate the help!

•I wish I could, but I'd have to take a day off work and I can't afford to lose the hours right now. Plus I'd need to find childcare for my youngest who isn't in school yet. It's frustrating that in-person seems to be the only reliable way to get help!

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to confirm they received your SAR7? If your income change was less than $125/month, you technically don't even have to report it on the SAR7 mid-period (though it's always good that you did). The key threshold to worry about is the IRT that was listed on your approval notice. As long as your total household income stays below that, your benefits should continue without interruption.

•Yes! I finally got through to someone yesterday using that Claimyr service another commenter suggested. They confirmed my SAR7 was received and being processed. The worker even checked over the info to make sure everything was in order. Turns out I was stressing for nothing since it was all in the system properly. Benefits should load as normal next month. Such a relief!
