Impossible to reach ESD on 800 number - tried all day with no luck
I've been trying to reach ESD on their 800 number literally ALL DAY today. Every single time, I get the automated message telling me to 'call back later' and then it hangs up! Not once has my call been placed in a queue or answered by a real person. WorkSource told me calling is the only way to resolve my issue, but it seems impossible. I've also sent messages through the eServices question prompt but who knows when they'll respond to those... Does anyone have any tricks or specific times when it's easier to get through? I'm getting desperate here - need to talk to someone about my claim before rent is due next week.

the esd phone system is GARBAGE!!! i tried calling for 2 weeks straight before giving up. its like they dont want ppl to actually get benefits we paid into the system for. messages thru eservices take 7-10 business days to get answered from what ive heard... good luck

•7-10 DAYS?? That's ridiculous! My landlord isn't going to wait that long. There has to be some way to get through.

Try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM. I had better luck getting through then. Also, Mondays and Tuesdays are their busiest days, so maybe try later in the week? Keep in mind that if your claim is in adjudication, regular agents might not be able to help much anyway - you'll need to speak with an adjudicator specifically.

•Thank you! I'll try right at 8am tomorrow. My claim isn't in adjudication (yet), I just need to fix an issue with my job search activities that's preventing me from submitting my weekly claim.

•I can't just give up though - I literally can't submit my weekly claim until I talk to someone. The system is blocking me because of some weird error with my job search log.

Have you tried using Claimyr? It's a service that automatically redials ESD for you until it gets through, then calls you and connects you to an agent. I was skeptical at first, but after trying to call for days with no luck, I gave it a shot and got through to ESD in about 45 minutes. They have a video demo on their site that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. It saved me so much frustration when I needed to sort out an issue with my job search requirements.

•It worked for me. I tried calling for three days straight with no luck, then used Claimyr and got through the same day. You just enter your phone number, and when they get through to ESD, they call you and connect you to the agent. It kept me from having to sit on the phone hitting redial all day.

I'm having a similar issue and I've found that timing is everything with ESD. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call at 8:00 AM SHARP (set an alarm for 7:58) 2. If that doesn't work, try again between 11:30-12:30 when agents return from lunch breaks 3. Thursday and Friday afternoons tend to have shorter wait times 4. Be prepared with your claim ID, SSN, and all relevant dates when you do get through Also, have you tried contacting your state representative? In desperate situations, they can sometimes help expedite ESD issues. Just Google "[your county] state representative" and most have constituent services that can help with unemployment problems.

•These are great tips! I'll definitely try calling right at 8am tomorrow. I hadn't thought about contacting my state rep - that's a good backup plan if I still can't get through. Thank you!

Former ESD employee here. The system is unfortunately designed to manage call volume by disconnecting when all agents are busy, rather than creating long hold queues. Here's what I recommend: 1. Call EXACTLY at 8:00:00 AM when the phone lines open 2. If disconnected, wait 2-3 minutes before trying again (consecutive immediate redials get flagged as spam) 3. Use a landline if possible (more stable connection) 4. Have all your information ready (claim ID, dates, specific questions) 5. Be extremely specific about your issue when you do reach an agent For your job search log issue: if you're getting an error when entering activities, try using different activity types. Some claimants have success with "job application" rather than "job search" activities as the system validates them differently.

•Thank you so much for this insider info! I didn't know about waiting between calls - I've been immediately redialing which might be making things worse. The tip about job search activities is super helpful too. I'll try submitting my activities differently.

I was finally able to get through to ESD last month about a similar issue! I noticed that calling on Wednesday around 3:15pm worked for me. The agent told me that's when their call volume typically dips a bit. Also, make sure you're calling the right number for your specific issue. The general claims line (800-318-6022) is different from the weekly claims line (800-318-6020). Good luck!

•Thanks for the tip about Wednesday afternoon! I'll add that to my strategy. I've been calling the general claims line (800-318-6022) since that's what WorkSource told me to use for this issue. Fingers crossed I can get through tomorrow!
