What documents count as proof of unemployment for NYS Department of Labor verification?

I'm applying for a program that requires proof of unemployment but I'm not sure what documents they'll accept. I've been collecting unemployment benefits from NYS Department of Labor for about 6 weeks now. Would my weekly claim confirmations work? Or do I need something more official like a letter from the unemployment office? Has anyone dealt with this before?

Most places accept your NYS Department of Labor monetary determination letter as proof. You can also print out your payment history from your my.ny.gov account which shows your weekly benefit amounts. Some organizations also accept your most recent weekly claim confirmation emails.

Perfect! I do have the monetary determination letter saved. Should I bring multiple forms of proof just to be safe?

You can request an official verification letter directly from NYS Department of Labor if you need something more formal. Log into your my.ny.gov account and look for the 'Request Documents' section. The verification letter includes your claim start date, weekly benefit amount, and claim status.

How long does it take to get the verification letter? I tried calling NYS Department of Labor but couldn't get through to anyone after waiting on hold for 2 hours.

I had the same problem with NYS Department of Labor phone lines. I actually found this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com that helps you get through to unemployment agents. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Used it last month when I needed to talk to someone about my adjudication and got through in about 20 minutes.

depends what you need it for really. for most things the weekly confirmation emails are fine but banks and landlords usually want the official monetary determination

I went through this same situation a few months ago. The monetary determination letter is definitely your best bet - it's the most official document and shows all the key details like your weekly benefit amount and claim dates. I'd also recommend downloading and printing your payment history from my.ny.gov as backup. Most organizations accept either one, but having both gives you options depending on what they prefer to see.
