Missed NY unemployment appointment - any idea how long until payments restart?

I totally messed up and missed my scheduled appointment with DOL last week. They immediately stopped my unemployment benefits (ugh!). I finally got through to someone on the phone yesterday and explained what happened. The lady was actually pretty understanding and said my payments will start again, but she didn't tell me WHEN. Has anyone else missed an appointment and had their benefits paused? How long did it take for your payments to start coming through again? I'm getting really anxious because rent is due next week and I'm counting on that money.

I missed an appointment back in January and it took about 10 days for my payments to resume after they confirmed I rescheduled. The key is making sure they actually processed your explanation and marked your case as resolved in their system. Did the representative give you any confirmation number or tell you that they processed the change while you were on the phone?

She didn't give me a confirmation number, which is making me nervous. She just said something like "it's been noted in the system" and that payments would resume. Should I call back and ask for some kind of confirmation?

This happens more often than you might think. The timeframe for payment resumption typically depends on when in the certification cycle you had the conversation with the DOL representative. If you already certified for the week before speaking with them, you should see payment in 3-5 business days. If you haven't certified yet, do so during your regular certification window, and payment should process normally from that point forward. I always recommend keeping a detailed log of all conversations with DOL representatives - name, ID number if provided, date, time, and a summary of what was discussed.

I certified on Sunday and talked to them Monday. So maybe by Friday? I didn't think to get her name or ID number... that was stupid of me. Lesson learned for next time I guess.

A week and a half?! That's way too long - I can't wait that long. Did calling them multiple times help speed things up?

My cousin went through something similar and got his money back in exactly 7 days. Might be different for everyone though.

When this happened to me last year, it took about 7-8 business days for payments to resume. The most important thing is to make sure you don't miss any weekly certifications while waiting. Keep certifying as normal, even if the system shows your benefits as paused or if you're not receiving payments immediately. Those certifications will eventually process once your case is reactivated. One thing that really helped me was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a live agent quickly. I kept getting different answers when I called normally and would wait for hours. I found their service through a video demo (https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE) and they got me connected to a tier 2 specialist who could actually see what was happening with my account and fixed it while I was on the phone. Definitely worth it when you're dealing with time-sensitive benefit issues.

Thank you! I'll definitely keep certifying. I might try that Claimyr thing if I don't see payments by next week. Is it complicated to use?

Not complicated at all - you just enter your phone number and they call you back when they've secured a spot in the queue. Saved me hours of frustration. Just make sure you have all your claim details ready when the agent connects.

NEVER trust them when they say "it's been noted in the system"!!!! That's their standard line when they want to get you off the phone. I bet if you called back right now and asked another rep, they'd have NO RECORD of your previous conversation. This happened to me TWICE during my claim. You need to keep calling until you get a confirmation number or speak with a supervisor who can give you a definite date when payments will resume. The regular phone reps don't have the authority to actually fix anything in most cases, they just make notes that the higher-ups may or may not ever see.

Oh god you're scaring me. I waited on hold for almost 3 hours yesterday. I don't think I have the mental energy to do that again today.

I'm actually in the exact same boat! Missed my appointment on Monday because I got the time wrong (thought it was 2pm but it was actually at 11am). My payments stopped immediately. I've been trying to call but can't get through. Did you call the regular unemployment number or is there a special number for missed appointments?

Not OP but there's no special number, just the regular one. Try calling right when they open, that's usually when it's easiest to get through.

Update us when your payment comes through! It would be helpful for others to know the exact timeline. In my experience, the DOL system updates overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday each week, so if your case was resolved on Monday, there's a good chance you'll see movement by tomorrow morning.

i mean sometimes ppl get lucky and get it right away. i think it depends who u talk to and if they actually fix it while ur on the phone or just make a note for someone else to look at later

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that my payment came through this morning! So it took exactly 3 business days from when I spoke with the DOL representative. Thank you all for your help and advice!
