When will the $1400 stimulus payment arrive? How do I know if I qualify?
I'm really confused about this $1400 stimulus payment situation. I got the first payment back when they were giving them out, but I never received the second $1400 payment that I think I was supposed to get. Now I'm hearing people talking about stimulus money coming out again or that we can claim it if we missed it before? I filed my taxes for 2021 already but didn't claim any recovery rebate credit because I wasn't sure if I qualified. Does anyone know if these new $1400 deposits I'm hearing about are for people like me who missed one previously? How do I even check if I'm eligible? My income hasn't changed much since the original payments went out. Would I need to file an amended return for 2021 or is this something separate entirely? Really hoping to get this figured out since that money would help a lot right now.

The $1400 stimulus payments aren't actually new payments being sent out now. What you're likely hearing about is the Recovery Rebate Credit for the third Economic Impact Payment (EIP3) of $1400 that was approved under the American Rescue Plan Act in March 2021. If you didn't receive the full $1400 payment you were entitled to in 2021, you would need to claim it as the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 tax return. Since you mentioned you already filed your 2021 taxes without claiming this credit, you would need to file an amended return (Form 1040-X) to claim the missing payment. To determine eligibility, the payment was generally available to individuals with adjusted gross income up to $75,000, heads of household up to $112,500, and married couples filing jointly up to $150,000. The payment phased out above those thresholds. You can check your payment status by creating an account on the IRS website and looking at your tax records or calling the IRS directly.

•Thanks for the info! But I'm confused because I thought there was a deadline to claim these payments? Is it too late now to file an amended return for 2021? And how long does it usually take to get the money if I do file an amendment?

•You still have time to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit by filing an amended return. The deadline to file an amended return for 2021 is generally April 15, 2025 (three years from the original due date). So you have plenty of time left to file Form 1040-X and claim any stimulus payment you were entitled to but didn't receive. Processing times for amended returns are unfortunately quite long right now. The IRS is currently taking about 20+ weeks (5+ months) to process amended returns. Once processed, you would receive the recovery rebate as part of your refund either by direct deposit or check depending on what you select on your form.

After spending weeks trying to figure out my missing stimulus situation, I finally found help using https://taxr.ai - it was honestly a game changer for me. I uploaded my tax documents and answered a few questions, and it immediately identified that I qualified for the Recovery Rebate Credit that I had completely missed. The system actually explained exactly why I qualified based on my specific situation and guided me through exactly what forms I needed to file. No more confusion about whether I was eligible or not! It even created a pre-filled amended return form for me to submit to the IRS with everything properly documented.

•Does it actually work for complicated situations? I'm eligible for the stimulus but my ex-spouse and I have a complicated situation with our kid and who claimed them as a dependent in different years. Would it help with figuring out who should claim the Recovery Rebate?

•I've tried using online tools before and they never seem to understand my specific situation. How customized is the analysis? And does it just give general advice or actual actionable steps? I've been burned before by generic "help" that doesn't actually solve my specific issue.

•It actually does handle complicated situations really well. I had a similar issue with dependent claims changing between tax years, and the system walked me through each scenario and showed exactly who was eligible for what. It analyzes your specific documents rather than just giving generic advice. The analysis is completely customized to your situation based on the documents you upload. It gives you specific, actionable steps - in my case, it created the exact amended return I needed with all the right forms and even highlighted exactly where I needed to sign and what supporting documentation to include.

Just wanted to follow up about my experience with taxr.ai since I was skeptical at first. I ended up trying it for my missing stimulus payment issue and I'm genuinely impressed. The system immediately identified that I was eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit I'd missed, even with my complicated dependent situation with my ex. What surprised me most was how it handled the year-to-year changes in dependent status. It analyzed both years' returns, spotted the inconsistency that was causing my confusion, and generated the exact paperwork I needed. Saved me hours of research and probably a costly visit to a tax professional. Definitely worth checking out if you're in a similar boat!

After spending 3 HOURS on hold with the IRS trying to figure out my stimulus payment status, I finally discovered https://claimyr.com and it changed everything. They actually hold your place in line with the IRS and call you back when an agent is about to answer! I was super skeptical, but you can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c - it's basically a service that navigates the IRS phone system for you. I got a call back in about 45 minutes and was able to speak directly with an IRS agent who confirmed my eligibility for the $1400 stimulus and explained exactly how to claim it on my amended return.

•Wait, how does this actually work? I thought the IRS phone system was just perpetually busy and there was no way around it. Do they have some special access or something? Seems like it would be against IRS rules if they had some kind of backdoor.

•Yeah right. There's no way this actually works. I've literally spent DAYS trying to get through to the IRS about my stimulus payment. If this really worked, wouldn't everyone be using it? Sounds like another scam trying to profit off desperate people waiting for their money.

•There's no special access or backdoor. They basically use technology to wait on hold for you. Their system calls the IRS, navigates the menu options, waits on hold, and then when a real human IRS agent finally picks up, it calls your phone and connects you directly to that agent. You just skip the hold time. It's completely legitimate and follows all IRS rules - you're still going through the normal IRS channels and speaking with official IRS representatives. It's just that their system is doing the waiting instead of you. I was skeptical too until I got the call back and was speaking with an actual IRS agent who helped resolve my issue.

Okay I need to eat my words about the Claimyr thing. After my skeptical comment I decided to try it anyway because I was desperate to talk to someone at the IRS about my missing stimulus payment. IT ACTUALLY WORKED. I got a call back in about an hour and was connected to a real IRS agent! The agent confirmed I was eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit and walked me through exactly how to file my amended return. They even noted my account so there hopefully won't be any issues when my amended return is processed. Saved me from spending another day listening to that awful hold music. If you're still trying to figure out your stimulus situation, definitely worth it to actually get a human on the phone who can check your specific account.

Just FYI for everyone - I found out through this whole process that there are specific codes on your tax transcript that show if/when you received stimulus payments. If you create an online account at IRS.gov, you can view your tax transcripts and look for code 766 with a description that references "TAX RELIEF CREDIT." That'll show you exactly what you received and when. Makes it much easier to determine if you're missing a payment before going through the whole amended return process. Wish I'd known this sooner!

•Thank you so much for this! I didn't know we could check our transcripts online. Is it hard to set up an account? And will it show all three stimulus payments or just the $1400 one?

•Setting up an IRS account isn't too difficult, but you need to verify your identity with some specific documentation. You'll need a photo ID, social security number, tax filing status, mailing address from your last return, and some financial account that can be verified (like credit card, mortgage, loan, etc.). The transcript will show all stimulus payments you received, not just the $1400 one. Look for the 766 code with dates in 2020 and 2021. The first payment was $1200, second was $600, and third was $1400. If you're missing any, that's what you would claim on an amended return for the appropriate tax year.

Has anybody here had their amended return actually processed yet after claiming the missing stimulus? I filed mine back in February and the "Where's My Amended Return" tool still just says it's processing. Getting worried since I'm counting on that money.

•I filed my amended return in January for the missing stimulus and just got my refund last week, so about 5 months total. The online status never updated though! It still says "processing" even though I got my check already. The IRS systems are super behind on updates.
