What is the Extra Home Heating Credit (EHHC) and who qualifies?

I keep hearing about some kind of extra credit for home heating expenses on 2023 taxes. Is this real? How do I know if I qualify and how much could I get back? My heating bills were crazy high this winter and I could really use the help.

The Home Energy Credit for 2023 can give you up to $500 back on your taxes. You qualify if you installed energy-efficient improvements like new windows, doors, insulation, or heating systems. You'll need to file Form 5695 with your return and have receipts for the improvements. The credit is nonrefundable, meaning you can only get back what you owe in taxes.

No sorry! But check if your state has LIHEAP - that's for helping with actual heating bills

Hey guys ive been using taxr.ai to figure out all these credits and deductions. Its only $1 and it analyzes your transcript to tell you exactly what credits you qualify for and how to claim them. Way better than trying to piece everything together from different posts https://taxr.ai
