FAFSA processed without email notification - schools receiving data anyway?

Just wanted to share our weird FAFSA experience this year. We submitted our application on January 5th, 2025 and it showed as 'processing' for WEEKS. Never got a single email saying it was completed! I randomly checked the studentaid.gov portal yesterday (April 2nd) and saw it had actually been processed on March 12th. Freaked out thinking my son's colleges never got his info, but when I called USC (his top choice), they confirmed they received all his financial aid data two weeks ago! Has anyone else experienced this complete lack of notification? Are the FAFSA emails just broken this year or what? Check your portals manually folks!

SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO US!!! Submitted Jan 10, showed processing forever, no emails AT ALL. I only found out it was done when my daughter's counselor mentioned we should have heard back by now. Logged in and boom - processed March 15th. No notification, nothing. Called two schools and they both had her info already. The system is SO BROKEN this year!!!

Glad it's not just us! Did you end up having to submit any additional documentation? We got hit with verification requests from two schools after they received our info, wondering if that's related to the notification issues somehow.

Already checked spam, promotions, everything. Nothing from studentaid.gov since the initial confirmation when we submitted in January. So frustrating!

This appears to be a widespread issue with the 2025-2026 FAFSA notification system. What's happening is the processing is completing correctly, and the data is being transmitted to schools through the normal channels, but the email notification system is experiencing failures. The Department of Education is aware of the issue. For everyone applying this cycle, I recommend: 1. Check your studentaid.gov account weekly, regardless of whether you receive emails 2. Verify your SAI calculation is complete (should show on your dashboard) 3. Contact your schools directly to confirm receipt of your FAFSA data 4. Check your selected schools' financial aid portals for any verification requests This isn't impacting aid eligibility, just the communication process.

I work in a financial aid office and can confirm we're getting FAFSA data for students who tell us they never received notification emails. The system is definitely sending the information to schools - it's just the student communication part that's broken. If you're concerned, call your schools directly rather than waiting for emails that might never come. And don't forget to check each school's financial aid portal for any additional documentation requests!

Thanks for the inside perspective! It's oddly reassuring to know it's a system-wide issue. Do you know if this is causing delays in aid packages being put together? My son's still waiting to hear from most schools.

If your really worried and need to talk to someone at federal student aid about your application status, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in the same boat - no emails, couldn't tell if my daughter's application was actually being sent to schools. Kept calling FSA and getting disconnected after 2+ hour waits. Claimyr got me connected to an agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed everything was processed correctly on their end. Their video shows how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. Saved me a ton of time and stress!

Has anyone else used this service? I'm desperate to talk to someone at FSA about my son's application but can't spend all day on hold...

This whole FAFSA cycle is a MESS. First they delay the form release till January, then they have all those calculation errors, now they can't even send emails properly?? My daughter needs to make her college decision by May 1st and some schools still don't have complete financial aid packages together because of all these FAFSA problems. How are families supposed to make informed decisions like this???

For those waiting on aid packages, you can request an extension from your schools if you haven't received all your financial aid information by the May 1 decision deadline. Most institutions are aware of the FAFSA delays this year and are being more flexible than usual. Just be sure to request the extension in writing (email is fine) to your admissions office, explaining that you're still waiting on complete financial aid information to make your decision.

This is really helpful advice! We'll definitely ask for an extension if we don't have all the packages by mid-April. The uncertainty is killing us.

To clarify about the verification requests some of you mentioned - verification selections are not related to the email notification issues. About 30% of all FAFSA filers get selected for verification each year, which requires submitting additional documentation to confirm your reported information. If you've been selected, you'll need to complete those requirements before your aid can be finalized. Check both your studentaid.gov account and your individual school portals to see if you've been selected and what documents you need to submit.

Good to know! We did get selected for verification at 2 schools. Submitted all the extra tax docs they wanted last week. Hopefully that speeds things up.
