FAFSA processed but school hasn't received it - summer term deadline panic!

I'm freaking out about my FAFSA timeline! My school considers April 29th as part of their 2024-2025 summer term (they've already cancelled my 2023-2024 aid because of this). FAFSA says my application has been processed for over a week now, but my financial aid office keeps calling asking if I've submitted it yet. They're in full panic mode because their summer enrollment starts soon, and I'm worried my aid won't come through in time. Has anyone else had their FAFSA processed but the school claims they haven't received it? How long did it take for your school to actually receive your info after FAFSA said it was processed?

3 WEEKS?? I don't have that kind of time! My summer registration closes in 10 days and without the financial aid package, I can't register for classes. Did you do anything to speed it up or literally just wait?

The disconnect between FAFSA processing and schools receiving the information is frustratingly common this year with the new system. What you need to do is check your Student Aid Index (SAI) on studentaid.gov to confirm it's truly processed. Then verify that you correctly listed your school's code on the application. If both are correct, contact your school's financial aid office and ask them to manually look up your FAFSA using your SSN or FSAID - sometimes it's in their system but not properly matched to your student account.

Thank you! I just checked and my SAI is definitely there (it's 3200 if that matters). I'm 100% certain I put in the right school code because I triple-checked before submitting. I'll call tomorrow and ask them to manually search for it - that's a great tip!

It sounds like you might have been selected for verification, which is different from the issue the original poster is having. Verification means the Department of Education randomly selected your application for additional review. You'll need to submit extra documentation to your school to verify the information on your FAFSA. Check your student portal or contact your financial aid office ASAP to find out exactly what documents they need.

Just to clarify something important: there's a difference between "processed" and "processed AND transmitted." When your FAFSA says "processed," it means the Federal Student Aid office has calculated your SAI, but it doesn't guarantee the information has been successfully transmitted to your school yet. This year's new FAFSA has had significant transmission delays. Here's what you should do immediately: 1. Print your SAR (Student Aid Report) from studentaid.gov 2. Email it directly to your financial aid office 3. Follow up with a phone call to confirm receipt 4. Ask them to manually input your SAI while waiting for the official transmission Many schools can start creating a preliminary aid package with this information.

This is super helpful! I had no idea there was a difference between processed and transmitted. I'll get my SAR printed today and email it over. Hopefully they can work with that while waiting for the official transmission.

While there are definitely issues with financial aid offices sometimes, this is more likely a technical issue with the new FAFSA system than a deliberate attempt to mislead students. I work with many students, and we're seeing widespread delays in schools receiving FAFSA data this year specifically because of the system overhaul. Let's not jump to malicious intent when there's a known systemic issue happening.

I've been helping several students with this exact issue. If you've confirmed your FAFSA is processed (with an SAI number) but your school says they haven't received it, there's a technical disconnect happening. The fastest solution I've found is reaching out directly to Federal Student Aid to confirm the transmission status. However, reaching them by phone is nearly impossible right now with the backlog of issues from the new system. I recently discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you skip the FSA phone queue - they have a video demo here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Once you get through to FSA, they can confirm whether your information was actually transmitted to your school and can often expedite the transmission if needed. Much faster than just waiting anxiously for weeks like many students have been doing.

Thank you so much for this specific advice! I'll check out that service today - at this point I'm willing to try anything that might help speed things up. The waiting and uncertainty are killing me, especially with the summer deadline approaching.

I just went through this exact nightmare scenario! My school also counts late April as summer term, and my FAFSA was processed but "invisible" to them for almost 2 weeks. What finally worked for me was physically going to the financial aid office with my SAR printout and having them enter a manual override in their system. The financial aid director explained that many schools are having to create workarounds for the new FAFSA transmission delays. Don't just call - GO IN PERSON if you possibly can! Made all the difference for me.

This is really encouraging to hear! I can definitely go in person tomorrow. Should I bring anything besides my SAR printout? I have my tax info and everything just in case.

Yes, bring your driver's license/ID, SSN card if you have it, and maybe tax info just in case. The more documentation you have, the better! My aid officer was super helpful once I was actually standing in front of her instead of being just another phone call.

This is such a stressful situation! I'm dealing with something similar - my FAFSA shows as processed but my school's financial aid office acts like it doesn't exist. The timing pressure with summer deadlines makes it even worse. From what I'm seeing in these responses, it sounds like going in person with your SAR printout is the most effective approach. The technical delays with the new FAFSA system seem to be affecting tons of students this year, so at least we know we're not alone in this mess. Have you tried checking if your school has any emergency aid or deadline extension policies for students affected by the FAFSA delays? Some schools are being more flexible this year given all the technical issues everyone's experiencing.

That's a really good point about emergency aid or deadline extensions! I hadn't even thought to ask about that. Given how widespread these FAFSA issues seem to be this year, it makes sense that schools might have some flexibility built in. I'll definitely ask about that when I go in person tomorrow - worst case they say no, but it's worth a shot. Thanks for suggesting that angle!

I'm in a similar boat and it's absolutely maddening! My FAFSA has been showing as processed for 2 weeks but when I called my school yesterday, they said they have no record of receiving it. What's really frustrating is that I can see my SAI on the federal site clear as day, but somehow that information isn't making it to my financial aid office. I've been reading through all these responses and it sounds like the in-person approach with printed SAR might be my best bet too. The technical issues with this new FAFSA system are clearly widespread - I've seen so many posts about this exact problem across different forums. It's reassuring to know it's not just me, but also terrifying that so many of us are dealing with summer deadline pressure while the system is basically broken. Has anyone had success getting their school to acknowledge the systemic issues and maybe extend internal deadlines? I'm wondering if financial aid offices are getting guidance from higher up about how to handle all these delays.
