No FAFSA confirmation email from some colleges - should I remove and add different schools?
I submitted my FAFSA about 3 weeks ago and included 7 schools on my list. So far, I've only received confirmation emails from 4 of them saying they got my FAFSA data. The other 3 schools haven't sent anything, and I'm starting to get worried. There are 2 more colleges I'm considering adding, but I don't want to remove schools if they actually did receive my info but just haven't emailed me. Has anyone dealt with this? How do you know if a school actually received your FAFSA if they don't send confirmations? Do I need to call each school individually to check? Am I overthinking this???

•But why would some schools send them and others not? That's what's confusing me. How do I know if they actually got it?

You can actually verify which schools have received your FAFSA data by logging into your studentaid.gov account and checking your FAFSA status. Under the 'My FAFSA' section, you should be able to see which schools have downloaded your information. Remember that schools process FAFSA data at different speeds - some are very quick while others might take 4-6 weeks to process during peak periods. If you need to add more schools and you're already at your 10-school limit, you can remove schools that have already downloaded your data to make room for new ones. The schools that have already downloaded your information will still have access to it even if you remove them from your current list.

•Thank you so much! I didn't realize I could check that on studentaid.gov! I just looked and it shows two of the schools I was worried about have actually downloaded my info already, even though they didn't email me. That's a huge relief! The third one still hasn't downloaded it yet though...should I be concerned?

•I had this EXACT same problem last year and freaked out for nothing. Some schools send confirmation emails, some post notices in their student portals, and others literally say nothing but still process everything correctly. It's super annoying there's no standard communication!

DID YOU CHECK YOUR SCHOOL PORTALS?? A lot of schools don't email but they update your student portal with the FAFSA receipt status. That's how 5 of my 8 schools communicated with me. The financial aid office won't email you directly, the notification just appears in the portal. Try logging into each school's admitted student/applicant portal to check!

•That's a great point! I just checked one of the portal accounts and there IS actually a notification there that I missed. I need to check the others now. Thanks for the tip!

You're definitely not overthinking it - the FAFSA process is stressful! I had the same issue last year and ended up spending HOURS trying to call each financial aid office. Most put you on hold forever or never answer. I finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that gets you through to FAFSA agents quickly instead of waiting on hold. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ that shows how it works. I used it to confirm which schools had my info, and it turned out most had received it but just don't send confirmations. Saved me from removing schools unnecessarily!

•Yes! I was skeptical too but it really worked. I was able to talk to someone who confirmed exactly which schools had downloaded my info and which hadn't. Saved me a lot of stress and guessing games.

I work in a financial aid office, and I can tell you that we are DROWNING in FAFSA applications right now. With the new FAFSA simplification this year, many schools are behind in processing due to all the system changes. Some schools have automated email systems, others update portals, and some frankly don't communicate at all until they've processed your full financial aid package. As others mentioned, you can confirm receipt on studentaid.gov, but even if it shows a school hasn't downloaded it yet, that doesn't mean they won't. Schools typically download FAFSA data in batches every 1-2 weeks. I would recommend waiting at least 4-6 weeks before assuming a school hasn't received your information. If you're approaching deadlines for certain schools and want to make sure they have what they need, that's when I'd recommend contacting them directly.

•Thank you for the insider perspective! That's really helpful to know. So as long as I can see on studentaid.gov that I successfully submitted my FAFSA with those schools listed, I should assume they'll get it eventually, even if it takes a few more weeks?

•Yes, exactly. If you successfully submitted your FAFSA and those schools are listed, they will receive your information. The only exception would be if you had a major error on your FAFSA that triggered a processing halt, but you would receive notification about that from Federal Student Aid directly.

•Omg same. It's because the new FAFSA system is all messed up this year. My brother applied last year and got everything processed in like 2 weeks. Meanwhile I'm over here waiting FOREVER with half my schools showing different statuses 🙄

To answer your original question about removing and adding schools: You can have up to 10 schools on your FAFSA at one time. If you've already reached that limit and want to add more, you can safely remove schools that have already downloaded your information (which you can verify on studentaid.gov as mentioned earlier). If you haven't reached the 10-school limit yet, you can simply add the additional schools without removing any. And remember that this year's FAFSA is specifically for the 2025-2026 academic year, so make sure you're planning for the right timeframe.

•That's really helpful, thank you! I only listed 7 schools initially, so I have room to add the 2 more I'm considering without removing any. I'll double-check everything on studentaid.gov first. Thank you all for the help! I feel much better about this now.
