Need help getting IRS verification letter ASAP - any tips or deadlines I should know?

Hey everyone, I need some help with getting an IRS verification letter. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips or advice on how to get it quickly? I'm not sure if there are any specific deadlines I need to be aware of.

I just went through this last month. It's a pain, but here's what I did: 1. Call the IRS early in the morning (like 7 AM) to avoid long wait times 2. Have all your personal info ready (SSN, last tax return, etc.) 3. Be super polite to the agent (they deal with angry people all day) 4. Ask for expedited processing if you have a deadline 5. Follow up after a week if you haven't received anything Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

This is great advice! I'd add that you should also check if you can request the verification letter online through the IRS website. Sometimes it's faster than calling.

Calling at 7 AM? Ugh, I'm not a morning person. Is there a good time later in the day to try?

Later in the day is usually busier, but if you can't do mornings, try right after lunch. Like 1:30 PM. It's hit or miss, but better than peak hours.

I've been trying to get through to the IRS for weeks now. Its impossible to reach a human being. Anyone else having this problem?

Same here. I've spent hours on hold only to get disconnected. The system is broken 😡

Guys, I found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0

Wait, you paid money to call the IRS? That sounds sketchy af 🤔

I know it sounds weird, but it's legit. I was desperate after trying for weeks. It's not an IRS service, just a tool to get through the phone system. Saved me hours of frustration.

Does anyone know if there's a difference between a verification letter and a transcript? I'm confused about which one I actually need.

Pro tip: If you need the verification letter for a lender or other third party, ask them EXACTLY what they need. Sometimes they say "verification letter" when they really just want a transcript, which is easier to get online.

Oh wow, I didn't even think of that. I'll double-check with them. Thanks for the tip!

I swear the IRS makes everything 10x more complicated than it needs to be. Why can't they just have a simple online system for this stuff? 🤦‍♂️

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're stuck in the 1980s or something.

To be fair, they're dealing with sensitive info. But yeah, they could definitely streamline things more.

Has anyone tried going to a local IRS office for this? I heard sometimes that's faster than calling or mailing.

I tried that last year. You need an appointment and in my area, they were booked out for months. YMMV tho

Local office was a game-changer for me! Got everything sorted in one visit. Def worth a shot if you can get an appointment.
