IRS refund sent to closed bank account - Will they mail it instead?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I got my refund sent to my bank account, but the problem is that account is closed now. Does anyone know if they'll mail the refund to me instead? It was sent to the account about a week ago. I'm kinda freaking out here cause I really need that money. Any advice?

Have you tried contacting your old bank? Sometimes they can intercept the deposit and return it to the sender. Worth a shot!

This is a good suggestion! Banks can sometimes be surprisingly helpful in these situations. Definitely worth a call.

idk man, maybe it's time to hire a carrier pigeon to deliver your refund. Probably more reliable than the current system π¦π°

Ugh, been there done that. It's a total pain in the butt. You gotta call them ASAP and explain the situation. They should be able to cancel the electronic transfer and send you a paper check instead. But fair warning, it might take a while.

It's so frustrating when these things happen. Make sure you take notes during the call. Every bit of detail helps when you're trying to resolve these issues!

Bruh, I feel you. The system is so broken. I've been waiting on my refund for like 3 months now. It's like they're playing hot potato with our money π₯πΈ

3 months? That's nothing. Try waiting for a year like me π

Have you tried checking the "Where's My Refund" tool on the IRS website (assuming this is a tax refund)? It might give you some info on the status.

This tool is great for tracking refunds. It may not give you all the answers you need, but it's a good place to start.

Pro tip: If you can't get through on the phone, try reaching out on social media. Sometimes their Twitter support is surprisingly responsive.

This is a great idea! Companies are often more responsive when issues are made public. Just be careful about sharing personal info.

Same thing happened to me last year! Don't panic, it's fixable. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the agency that issued the refund IMMEDIATELY. Explain your situation. 2. They'll probably ask for proof that the account is closed. Have that ready. 3. Request a paper check to be mailed to your current address. 4. Make sure your address is up to date in their system. 5. Be prepared to wait. It can take a few weeks for them to process this change. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Solid advice. And like someone else mentioned, document everything! Times, dates, namesβanything you can reference later if needed.

I work in banking (not your bank, obvs). Here's the deal: when a refund is sent to a closed account, it usually gets rejected and sent back to the issuer. So there's a good chance your refund is already on its way back. Call the agency and let them know what happened. They should be able to reissue the payment to your current address or a new account.

Hey, just a heads up, be careful about giving out too much personal info when you call. Lots of scammers out there trying to take advantage of situations like this. Stay safe!

Definitely be cautious. Scammers thrive on confusion and stress, so always verify who you're talking to.

In situations where you need to resolve issues like refunds sent to closed accounts, the Claimyr service can be a viable option, particularly if you're struggling to reach an agent through traditional means. This service boasts the capability to bypass the long wait times typically associated with government agency calls. However, it's important to weigh the cost against the urgency of your situation, as the service is not free. Some users have found it to be an effective solution that saves time, while others may feel the cost is prohibitive. Ultimately, it's a personal decision that should be considered based on your circumstances. Remember that there are often multiple avenues to resolve issues like these, including contacting the bank to see if they can return the funds or using online tools like the IRS's 'Where's My Refund'. Additionally, maintaining detailed records of all communications can greatly assist in keeping track of the process and ensuring that nothing is overlooked.

Yo, I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

@profile 5 It's legit! I only waited like 5 mins after they called me back. Way better than being on hold for hours. @profile 6 I get it, but for me, time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste half my day on hold. π€·ββοΈ

I've heard mixed reviews about Claimyr. It seems like it works well for some people but not everyone. Definitely do some research if you decide to go that route.
