IRS Identity Verification Nightmare: Tips for Getting Through?

Hey everyone, I need to verify my identity with the IRS but I'm having a hard time getting through to them. Anyone else dealing with this? What's been your experience trying to reach them?

I found a way to solve IRS identity verification issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYhrhu00gvU

Ugh, been there done that. It's a nightmare trying to get through to the IRS. I spent hours on hold and got disconnected multiple times. It's like they don't want us to verify our identities or something 🙄

Same here! I swear they're purposely making it difficult. Anyone know if there's a better time to call?

I heard early morning works best, like right when they open. But tbh, it's still a crapshoot 🤷‍♂️

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Can you give more details about how it works? Do they have your personal info?

Nah, they don't need any personal info. They just call the IRS number and navigate the menu, then connect you when a human picks up. It's pretty straightforward

Pro tip: If you're calling to verify your identity, make sure you have all your documents ready before you call. They'll ask for things like your social security number, previous year's tax return, and possibly some credit card info. Being prepared can save you a lot of time once you finally get through!

Has anyone tried using the IRS online tools for identity verification? I've heard mixed things about it working.

I tried it and it worked for me! Took about 15 minutes. Way easier than calling

This whole system is broken af. Why can't they just have a simple online process that actually works? It's 2023 for crying out loud! 🤦‍♂️

Here's a comprehensive guide on how to navigate the IRS identity verification process: 1. Gather all necessary documents: - Social Security number - Previous year's tax return - Valid photo ID - Proof of address 2. Try the online verification first: - Go to the IRS website - Look for the 'Identity Verification' section - Follow the prompts carefully 3. If online doesn't work, prepare to call: - Best times are early morning or late afternoon - Be ready for a long wait (1-3 hours is common) - Use a landline if possible to avoid dropped calls 4. During the call: - Be patient and polite - Have all your docs ready - Take notes of the conversation 5. If all else fails: - Consider using a paid service to wait on hold for you - Or schedule an in-person appointment at a local IRS office Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up!
