FTB wage garnishment notice - How to ensure health insurance is accounted for?
Hey everyone, I just got a notice saying they're gonna start garnishing my wages. The thing is, I had health insurance but I'm not sure if they've taken that into account. Anyone dealt with this before? I'm trying to figure out how to make sure they've got all the right info before they start taking money out of my paycheck.

Ugh, been there done that. The FTB can be a real pain to deal with. Have you tried calling them directly? It took me forever to figure out which department to talk to.

Yeah, that's exactly my problem! I've been bounced around so much, I feel like a pinball. Any tips on which department to ask for?

I feel ya. Try asking for the Collections department specifically. They usually handle wage garnishment stuff. Good luck!

Protip: always ask for a supervisor if the first person cant help. They usually know more and can actually do stuff 💯

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? 🤔

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Totally worth the 20 bucks imo.

LOL I get it, but when you're losing hair over this stuff, $20 to actually talk to a human is a bargain. Just my 2 cents!

Make sure you have all your documents ready before you call. They'll ask for proof of your health insurance, dates of coverage, etc. And don't let them push you around! Stand your ground and make sure they review everything.

Oof, wage garnishment is rough. Have you considered setting up a payment plan with them instead? Sometimes they're willing to work with you if you reach out first.

I hadn't thought of that! Do you know if they're usually open to that kind of thing?

In my experience, yeah. Just be prepared with how much you can realistically pay each month. They might not love your first offer, but its a starting point for negotation.

Here's what you need to do to resolve this issue with the FTB (Franchise Tax Board) regarding wage garnishment and health insurance: 1. Gather Documentation: • Proof of health insurance coverage (policy documents, insurance cards) • Dates of coverage • Any correspondence you've had with FTB • Pay stubs showing current wages 2. Contact FTB: • Call the Collections Department at 800-689-4776 • Be prepared for long hold times • Ask to speak to a supervisor if needed 3. During the Call: • Explain your situation clearly • Provide all relevant information about your health insurance • Ask them to review your case and update their records • Request a hold on the wage garnishment while they review 4. Follow Up: • Get a case number or reference number • Ask for a timeline on when they'll complete the review • Request written confirmation of any agreements made 5. Consider Alternatives: • If eligible, propose a payment plan • Ask about any hardship programs they might offer Remember, stay calm and persistent. Document everything, including who you spoke to and when. If you're not making progress, consider seeking help from a tax professional or contacting your local taxpayer advocate office. Good luck!

Quick question - how long ago did you receive the garnishment notice? There's usually a window where you can contest it before it actually starts.

I got it about a week ago. Do you know how long that window typically is?

It's usually around 30 days, but don't quote me on that. Best to act ASAP tho, bureaucracy moves slow af

Have you checked your online account with FTB? Sometimes you can upload documents directly there and it might be faster than calling.
