EDD rejected my benefits claim - employer reported 100% pay but my paystubs show different. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My benefits got rejected because my employer reported paying me 100%. But that's not right! I've got pay stubs showing something different. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I say when I call them? I'm nervous about messing up and losing my chance at benefits.

I found a way to solve employer misreported pay issue, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Riq8KV82G2w

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there. Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your pay stubs and any other proof you have. 2. When you call, be polite but firm. Tell them there's a discrepancy between what your employer reported and your actual pay. 3. Ask them to review your case and explain how you can submit your evidence. 4. Get the name of who you talk to and a case number if possible. 5. Follow up in writing (email or fax) with copies of your evidence. Don't let them brush you off. You got this! 💪

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I'm gonna write all this down before I call. Do you think I should mention anything specific about the discrepancy?

Definitely! Be as specific as you can. If you know exactly which weeks or months the discrepancy is for, mention that. And if you can calculate the difference between what your employer reported and what you actually got paid, even better. The more details you give them, the easier it'll be for them to investigate.

This is solid advice. I'd add one thing: ask them what the appeal process is, just in case. Better to know upfront than scramble later if things don't go your way.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds sketchy. How do you know it's legit?

I was skeptical too, but I tried it and it worked. Saved me hours of hold time. They're a real company, not some scam.

$20 to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! 😤

I get it, but for me, it was worth not wasting a whole day on hold. Time is money, ya know?

have you tried reaching out to your employer? maybe there was a mistake on their end and they can fix it without you having to deal with the benefits office

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll give HR a call tomorrow and see if they can help. Thanks!

Oof, been there done that. It took me 3 months to get my issue resolved. Hang in there!

3 months?! 😱 I hope mine doesn't take that long. Did you have to keep calling or did they eventually sort it out?

It was a mix. I called every week, sent emails, and even reached out to my local representative. Eventually, it got sorted, but it was a hassle. Stay persistent!

pro tip: document EVERYTHING. every call, email, letter. you never know when youll need to prove you've been trying to resolve this. good luck!

idk if this helps but I had a similar issue last year. turns out my employer had misclassified me as a contractor instead of an employee. might be worth checking if that's whats happening here too

Oh wow, I didn't even know that could happen. I'll definitely look into it. How did you figure it out in your case?

I noticed my paystubs didn't have any taxes taken out. When I asked HR about it, they realized they'd messed up. It was a whole thing to fix, but worth it in the end.
