URGENT: How to find amounts owed on Federal Direct/Unsubsidized loans before 11/14 deadline? Need wire instructions too!
Hey everyone, I'm freaking out a bit here. My student loan payments are due soon and I'm totally lost on how much I owe for each of my federal direct and unsubsidized loans. Anyone know how I can figure this out ASAP? Also, does anyone have info on wire instructions? I'm seriously stressing about this deadline!

Ugh, I feel ya. The whole student loan system is a mess. Have you tried logging into your servicer's website? They should have a breakdown of each loan and the amounts due.

Yeah, I tried that but the website is so confusing. I can't tell which loans are which and the amounts don't seem to add up. 😫

Pro tip: call your loan servicer directly. They can give you a detailed breakdown over the phone. It's a pain, but it works.

Thanks for the tip! But how do I even get through to a real person? Every time I call, I'm on hold forever.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/kfgsWnbb8cU

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny when you're dealing with urgent loan issues.

How long did it take for them to actually connect you with someone?

It took about 45 minutes, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than wasting half my day on hold.

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Log into your Federal Student Aid account at studentaid.gov 2. Go to the "My Aid" section 3. You'll see a breakdown of all your federal loans 4. For each loan, click on "View Details" to see the loan type and amount 5. Write down the info for each loan 6. Contact your loan servicer (probably MOHELA) for the most up-to-date payoff amounts 7. Ask them about wire instructions while you're at it Don't panic! You've got this. Just take it step by step. And remember, if you can't pay the full amount, look into income-driven repayment plans. They can be a lifesaver.

This is solid advice. I'd add: take screenshots of everything for your records. You never know when you'll need proof of your loan details.

Preach! 🙌 It's like they purposely make it confusing so we mess up and they can charge us more. Total bs.

Quick question for the OP: Are you sure you need wire instructions? Most servicers prefer electronic transfers or checks. Wires usually have fees attached.

Oh, I didn't know that! I just assumed wire was the way to go for a large payment. Thanks for the heads up!

Be careful! Lots of scams out there. Only trust info from studentaid.gov or your actual loan servicer.

I applied for PSLF last year. It's legit but the process is a PITA. Took forever but finally got some loans forgiven. Worth looking into if you work in public service.

Protip: Set up autopay if you can. Most servicers give a .25% interest rate reduction for autopay. It's not much, but every little bit helps!
