MOHELA: Need urgent help figuring out payment amounts for each federal loan due 11/14

Hey everyone, I'm freaking out a bit here. I need to figure out how much I owe on each of my federal direct and unsubsidized loans ASAP. The payments are due on 11/14 and I'm totally lost. Does anyone know how to get a breakdown of what I owe for each loan? Also, if anyone has info on wire instructions, that'd be super helpful too. I've tried calling but the wait times are insane. Any advice would be appreciated!

I found a way to solve federal loan payment breakdown confusion, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GKqJ63WTV8

Ugh, I feel you. I was in the same boat last month. Have you tried logging into your MOHELA account online? They usually have a breakdown of each loan there. If not, you might need to bite the bullet and call them directly. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip! I tried logging in but the website was being glitchy. Guess I'll have to call them 😩

Pro tip: call early in the morning right when they open. Way shorter wait times!

I found a method to get someone on the phone quickly. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/kfgsWnbb8cU

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

Yep, it's legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Totally worth the $20 imo.

Wait, we have to PAY to talk to someone about our loans now? This system is so broken 🤦‍♂️

I get the frustration, but for me, time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste half a day on hold. But yeah, the system could definitely use some improvements.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Log into your MOHELA account 2. Go to the 'Loan Details' section 3. You should see a breakdown of each loan, including the type (Direct or Unsubsidized), current balance, and monthly payment amount 4. For wire instructions, look under the 'Ways to Pay' section If the website isn't working, call them at 1-888-866-4352. Be prepared for a long wait, though. Have your account number ready. Also, make sure you're enrolled in an income-driven repayment plan if you're struggling with payments. It can significantly lower your monthly dues. Hope this helps!

Great advice! I'd add that taking screenshots of your loan details is super helpful for keeping records. MOHELA's site can be finicky sometimes.

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're purposely making it difficult so we mess up and they can charge us more.

Ikr? And don't even get me started on the interest rates. We're basically indentured servants at this point 😤

Quick question - are you sure the due date is 11/14? I thought I saw something about payments resuming in October. Anyone else hear anything about this?

The official restart was October 1st, but the first payments aren't due until 11/14 for most people. It's confusing af tho, so double-check your account!

LPT: Set up auto-pay if you can. You get a 0.25% interest rate reduction, which doesn't sound like much but adds up over time. Plus, you don't have to worry about missing payments.

Has anyone had luck getting their loans forgiven through PSLF? I've been working in non-profit for 7 years now and I'm thinking about applying.

I applied last year and it was a NIGHTMARE. So much paperwork and back-and-forth. But I finally got approved last month. Keep all your employment records and be persistent!

Thanks! I used the PSLF Help Tool on the StudentAid.gov website. It was actually pretty helpful for guiding me through the process. Also, r/PSLF has some great info and support.

Anyone else feel like they're drowning in debt? I've been paying for 5 years and somehow owe MORE than when I started. This is insane.

Same here. It's like bailing out a sinking ship with a teaspoon. The whole system needs an overhaul.

Have you looked into income-driven repayment plans? They can lower your monthly payments based on your income. Might be worth checking out!
